Other Body
Resinous skins stretch over masses of material; plaster-soaked foam fills their bones and limbs. Bruised, scarred, and sutured, these bodies show temporal layers understood as living cartographies. Through their contact with human bodies, they are alive with the potential for constant transformation between disrepair and repair.
Plaster, foam, fabric, pigment, resin. Other Body are part of performance projects: ÁNIMA, Accretion, and Hollow Organ and the exhibition Liquid Skins.
Gestos
Sculptural archive of a series of corpo-material actions. Soaked in plaster, discarded foam bodies become molds to cast the imprint of the active body. The resulting forms become the primary record of these intimate and painstaking performances. Once fossilized, some of the forms are arranged together in their own gestures of embrace.
Plaster, foam. Video here. Featured in Liquid Skins exhibition.
Endo/exo
Endo/exo is a sculpture and the documentation of the process by which it was made. Slabs of clay are collaborators in a process documenting the changing topology of the body. Fleshy crevices and bony angles are registered in the material’s malleable memory. A collection of these ceramic forms, as the vertebrae of a back bone, hang vertically by “ligaments” of threads made from hair, creating a slippage between the external and internal structures of the body.
Ceramic, nylon, hair. Different iterations of Endo/exo sculptures were part of Somaesthesia and Imprints, Mutations exhibitions. Full video here.
Stuffed Stretched
Protrusions and openings coexist in this family of material bodies which play at swelling and contracting, binding and bursting.
Fabric, thread, foam. Featured in Liquid Skins exhibition.
